Our key role is to provide services and support to our members (as detailed below). 

Staff and volunteers working at our member community legal centres can access additional resources, training, networks, and events information in the Members Area.

Governance

The Association is governed by an Executive Committee comprising 8 representatives of member centres elected at our Annual General Meeting. There are also:

  • monthly Executive Committee meetings, General Quarterly Meetings of members and an Annual General Meeting
  • Legal Practice & Professional Indemnity Administration Committee meetings
  • representation on the National Association of Community Legal Centres (NACLC) Board of Management and Advisory Council
  • representation on stakeholder committees and Ad Hoc committees as required

Sector Development

The Association promotes sector development by:

  • the implementation of a National Accreditation Scheme to provide a sector led accreditation and certification process for community legal centres
  • providing governance support and training
  • contributing to human rights and social justice, including law reform campaigns and advocacy
  • encouraging collaboration between community legal centres by way of regular network meetings where members can share information

Legal Practice

  • administration of the Professional Indemnity Insurance Scheme and Risk Management Guide requirements
  • Quality Assured Provider Status with the Legal Practice Board
  • representation on the National PII Committee

Training and Support

  • access to Association's e-learning platform
  • provision of regular free/low cost Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training for community legal centre lawyers
  • weekly Members Update
  • bulk purchase of employee assistance program
