Who we are

We are a peak organisation representing and supporting community legal centres in WA.

Fast Fact: What is a community legal centre?

Recognition for the work of community legal centres

Our vision and values

We are committed to the principles of human rights, social justice and equity, including the rights of Western Australians to equity in access to legal services.

Our history

Community legal centres have been working in Western Australia for more than 30 years to advance human rights and social justice.

A peak body formed in 1990 to represent and support the sector, known as the Federation of Community Legal Centres (Western Australia) Incorporated.  In 2002 we changed our name to the Community Legal Centres Association (WA) Incorporated. Whilst this remains our legal name, since September 2019 we are known as Community Legal WA, the public face of the Association.

Our organisation

Each member centre attends our general meetings where we conduct our business, work to build a more sustainable community legal sector and advance law reform debates relevant to the people we help.

We have an Executive Committee elected by the membership in addition to various sub-committees and working parties. Community Legal WA is resourced by a Secretariat office in East Perth.

We are part of a national network of community legal centres through membership of Community Legal Centres Australia
